JUDGES
Angel heads the Asset Liability Management and Investment Solutions team at Lloyd's. He is responsible for investment strategy, asset allocation and investment risk. He also leads the design and implementation of investment solutions on the Lloyd's Investment Platform to provide customised solutions to insurers and capital providers in the Lloyd's market. Angel is a qualified actuary with experience across insurance and pension investment management, and equity research.
Bob Pannu is an investment consultant with extensive experience advising pension schemes and institutional investors on investment strategy, asset allocation, portfolio risk, and manager selection across fixed income, equities, alternatives, and private markets. He is currently an Investment Consultant at Lane Clark & Peacock, having previously held consulting roles at Aon and Watson Wyatt. Bob also worked in insurance asset management at Aviva, where he was responsible for customer asset strategy, manager research, and performance oversight, and at BlackRock, overseeing private equity and alternatives for a large OCIO UK pension scheme.
Bob is Head of Credit Risk in Hymans Robertson’s UK Insurance & Financial Services practice. He is an investment industry veteran with deep experience of global credit and interest rate markets. Having worked in the leading investment banks, insurance companies and consultancies, he has wide experience of implementing ESG, ALM, SAA, and IMV activities along with risk and capital modelling and optimisation for insurance companies. Bob is a Technical Specialist of the Institute of Risk Management and sits on its Climate Change Special Interest Group committee, a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, as well as being a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society.
Geoff Bauer is an Actuary and Partner based in London. He leads Aon’s UK Insurance Investment Team and is focused on the delivery of value-adding strategic advice to Aon’s insurance clients. He has experience in investment strategy, asset allocation, risk budgeting and investment governance.
He has worked with a number of insurers and other financial institutions and has a deep understanding of the implications of investment and risk management strategy for a regulated firm’s financial statements and regulatory capital position.
He is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and holds a B.Sc (hons) degree in Actuarial Science.
Keith is Head of Shareholder Investments at Aviva responsible for investment strategy, manager oversight and portfolio management oversight with a focus on the Matching Adjustment. Previous roles include Head of the Insurance Investment Solutions Group at Willis Towers Watson, providing investment and ALM support to life and general insurers; and Portfolio Director for the with profits fund at Legal & General.
Mark Gillan is Head of Investment Operations at Scottish Widows, responsible for the operational delivery and governance of the firm’s range of investment products. His remit covers fund and platform operations, investment governance, investment change, data & analytics, and customer disclosure. Mark has over 15 years’ industry experience in senior roles in operations and product management.
Mike Leonard is Head of Insurance Solution at Aviva Investors having joined in early 2024. Previously to this Mike was at Schroders where he was responsible for the Scottish Widows Matching adjustment book and LV prior to that where he was Head of Investment for the multi-line insurer. Mike has a multi-faceted career having held positions in portfolio management and trading. Mike holds a BSc. Hons in Actuarial Mathematics from Heriot Watt University.
Experienced financial operations leader currently serving as Head of Back-office,
Treasury, and Investment Accounting at Allianz Benelux in Brussels. With a strong
background in investment transactions, treasury management, process automation, and
regulatory compliance, I oversee a multidisciplinary team and drive operational
excellence. My career spans key roles at Allianz and AXA Bank Belgium, where I managed
client relationships, legal documentation, and implemented major regulatory changes. I
am passionate about team development, continuous improvement, and delivering high-
quality results in the financial sector.
Niall Moten is the Head of Investments at Convex, an international speciality insurance and reinsurance business with operations in Bermuda, London, Europe and the US. Niall is primarily focused on investment strategy, asset allocation and manager selection and has a background managing global fixed income portfolios for insurance asset owners. Niall has a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bristol and is a CFA Charterholder.
Punil is the Insurance Investment Advisory Leader at WTW. He leads a team of over 25 dedicated insurance investment professionals advising on over $400bn of assets globally. His team are committed to supporting insurers consider their investment strategy, strategic asset allocation and portfolio implementation. Punil has over 13 years of experience and joined WTW in 2022, working with insurance companies globally. Prior to joining WTW, Punil supported numerous UK and European insurers with management of investments, capital and sustainability risks. He earned a BSc in Mathematical Science from City University and an MSc in Actuarial Science from Heriot Watt University.
Sonia Alonso is a transformation-focused investment operations leader with over 15 years’ experience across insurance, asset management, and commercial banking. At Convex Insurance, she oversees a $6bn+ portfolio and leads strategic initiatives in data, compliance, and operational efficiency, having joined from RBC Global Asset Management (UK), where she served as Head of Investment Operations. Sonia is recognised for her innovative approach to operational excellence and her thought leadership in investment operations transformation.
She holds dual BAs in Business Administration and Management (Universidad de Burgos, Spain) and in Political Sciences (UNED, Spain). Sonia is also certified by CFA UK with the Impact Investment and Climate & Investing Certificates, holds the CFA Institute’s Certificate in Sustainable Investing, and the CISI Investment Operations Certificate (IOC), demonstrating her strong commitment to professional development in the investment operations field.
Stephen Smith, CFA, FSA, Managing Director, joined the firm in 2016. Steve is the CIO of Insurance Investments, responsible for advising, structuring, and managing insurance portfolios across asset classes. In addition to portfolio management, Steve oversees Solutions, which is responsible for strategic and quantitative analysis for institutional clients, especially strategic asset allocation, capital management, and asset-liability management. Steve is closely involved with US insurance regulatory developments, chairing the C-1 Subcommittee at the American Academy of Actuaries. Previously, Steve held positions as an insurance strategist at Goldman Sachs and as an actuary at MassMutual. Steve graduated Phi Beta Kappa in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of South Carolina.
Toni is a Partner in Pantheon’s Global Private Credit Investment and European Investment Teams. He previously worked in the private markets team at Cambridge Associates, where he advised institutional investors on their private market investment programs and conducted research and due diligence on private market funds, managers, and markets. Toni has an MPhil in economics from the University of Oxford and a BEng in engineering with business finance, which was jointly taught at University College London and the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is fluent in Finnish, Spanish and English.
